R. C. MAHIM MUNICIPAL URDU SCHOOL & D.ED COLLEGE ADOPTED BY MESCO

From the day MESCO adopted the school on 26th November 1997 under the school adoption scheme, it is trying its best to uplift the standard of R. C. Mahim Municipal School. It has total student strength of 1500 students. Today the pass SSC percentage has come to 54% and 100% in D.Ed. at state conducted exam.

MESCO is helping students by providing notebooks and uniforms to students at both Primary level and Secondary level.Recreation (both indoor and outdoor) facilities available for students. It also took care of regular repairs and maintenance work in the school. The Municipal Corporation under which the school is run has recently taken up major repairs and is doing an excellent job.

Apart from this MESCO has also provided teachers (9 teachers’ salaries) as the corporation has not replaced the teachers who have retired or left the school. It has also provided round the clock security at the school gate; earlier drug addicts and local goons were doing the rounds during school hours without any check.

MESCO believes that classroom teaching is inadequate as the students come from very economic and low literacy level households and thus cannot cope with their studies and require additional support keeping this in mind MESCO has provided Extra coaching classes support to a small number of students from Std. VIII to Std. X. In order to improve retention after school when these extra classes are conducted, it has arranged for a small snack during lunch break.

MESCO’s VOCATIONAL TRAINIG CENTRE - DHARAVI

SEWING CLASSES

With the objective of self-reliance and independence for women, MESCO took the initiative of establishing Sewing Classes in slums of Dharavi. During over 20 years more than 1000 students have benefited from this activity. Majority of our students are destitute, divorced, school dropouts, deserted and widows, who utilize this skill for earning their livelihood and supporting their families. Our collaboration with Sophia Polytechnic earlier and WIT (Women’s India Trust) under their Outreach program for women, has further strengthened our course and lent greater credibility to our already well-established program.

SHORT TERM VOCATIONAL COURSE

Under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, MESCO had collaborated with Jan Shikshan Samiti empowering school dropouts through skill training. We have trained more than 150 students under Mehendi and Beautician Courses.
