During 2011-12 we have assisted 2256 school & college students, provided Medical Services to 425 patients under various schemes and another 67729 patients through our three Mobile Clinics and two Fixed Dispensaries; and provided Poverty Relief to 2729 beneficiaries
Enrolment in the School We had 2 options before us, as far as conduct of the school was concerned:
Either begin with Pre-primary (Nursery), Primary (Std. V) and Secondary (Std. VIII) all at one time and in the next 3 years add 2/3 levels to reach to the next pre-existing level i.e. Nursery would go to Junior K.G. and in the next 2 years the Primary i.e. Std. I would reach Class IV in the next 3 years and finally the Secondary i.e. Std. VII would reach class X in the next 2 years i.e. we would thus have a complete school in 3 years.
The other alternative was to add 1 class each year, in the following years beginning from Nursery level and have the complete school in 12 years time. We opted for the latter, as there were 2 areas of concern firstly, if we took the former route, we would have students coming to our school from other schools who were not necessarily the best students coming from these feeder schools, secondly, our first batch of Std. X would have been with us only for 3 years (VII X), and the Board results which are commonly used as a yardstick, may not be very favourable, thirdly, also since the staff needs to be pruned over the time to retain the very best, fourthly and more importantly, we would have then for a relatively short time to build their character and attitude to life.
Curriculum
We wish to have an ICSE curriculum, rather than the SSC curriculum; the arrangement is not acceptable to the ICSE Board, which specifies that classes from I VIII need to be there when applying for recognition. It was always advantageous to mould the students into a framework over a period of time and especially when we are talking of their, physical, mental and spiritual development.
The present school which was started in 1993 and is now running classes from Nursery upto Std. X. As the classes are being conducted in shops the size of the shops ranging from 150 to 200 sq.ft. and since we wanted to provide an area of 6 8 sq.ft. / child as per ISI specifications, we have restricted the numbers per class to 25. We have a student population of 645 students. The size of the classroom (as conducted now), apart from being academically a disadvantaged situation has also been posing a significant factor in terms of sustainability.
The Need:
We have already received some commitments towards the building cost, but we require funds for the ongoing deficit, which have been working to almost 12-15 lakhs per year. Since are not able to recover the entire cost from the school population, as they are coming from underprivileged section of society, we therefore require at least about 3 to 4 crores towards the Corpus, which would then be able to take care of the annual deficit as also meet expenditures of a growing school.
Status of New Building
The civil work of the new school building is complete whereas electrical, painting and furnishing work is yet to be completed. We are in dire need of funds and if the funds keep on flowing, we shall be able to shift the classes into the new building in June 2010.
